Design brief & vision
The brief was to take a garden dominated by wall-to-wall grass and turn it into a space that offered privacy from surrounding properties, and encouraged interaction with planting and natural features. The vision was to create a space that felt both open and intimate, balancing family use with a sense of seclusion.
Key features
A crushed gravel path winds through the garden, creating a journey that encourages exploration of the planting and trees. The path links different areas while breaking up the flat lawn, adding rhythm and movement to the design. Multiple carefully placed trees provide height, seasonal interest, and a layer of natural privacy. They create framed views, shade, and moments of surprise as you move through the garden. Combined with modern planting, they ensure the garden feels dynamic and ever-changing.
Planting scheme
The planting design brings texture, colour, and structure to what was once a featureless lawn. Beds along the path are filled with layered perennials and shrubs, creating interest at eye level while softening the lawn edges. Seasonal planting ensures that there is something to enjoy at every stage of the year, while the addition of trees provides vertical layers and a strong sense of enclosure.
