Willow Alexander is a design-led practice based in south-east London. We take on commissioned gardens across London and Kent, typically six to eight new commissions a year.
Every project is managed by the founder, every build delivered by our own employed crews, and every garden cared for afterwards by our in-house gardening team. We think of a garden not as a job we complete, but as a relationship that lasts decades.
We work slowly. We say no to more projects than we take on. What we do, we do carefully and for keeps.
THE WORK
Our stonemason and head gardener have been with us for many years. We decline around one in five quote requests because they fit neither our craft nor our capacity. What we do, we do for decades.
THE PEOPLE
Every Willow Alexander team member is employed and has been with us on average fourteen years. No subcontractors. It is why our work is consistent, and why our clients rarely need to ask us what is going on in their garden.
THE LAND
Carbon neutral. Native planting prioritised wherever it belongs. Peat-free across the board. We remove more carbon from the atmosphere each year than the business emits, tracked via Scope 1, 2 and 3.
THE CONVERSATION
We answer every email within one working day, often the same morning. The studio phone rings through to a real person, who will usually be able to help on the first call. We write to every client, not just the ones whose work is in progress, at least twice a year.
THE MAINTENANCE ARM
Willow Alexander Gardeners is the same studio, same craft, applied week after week. Often it is the gardens we have designed; sometimes it is a garden we have not, ready for the care it deserves. Weekly, fortnightly or monthly visits, by our own employed team.
